(TheMemo)  A new exhibition at the Royal Academy, “From Life”, enables visitors to experience augmented and virtual reality art that sucks them right out of the gallery.
three virtual works on display at the RA.
In Farshid Moussavi’s piece, you step into a giant white ribbed dome, where you are able to control the Italian architectural elements: lowering the roof, widening the arches, playing with scale. Next, Humphrey Ocean has built a virtual space which reimagines a real-life armchair sculpture you’ll recognise from earlier in the exhibition. Finally there’s Yinka Shonibare’s offering that is a virtual recreation of the neo-classical Venus Presenting Helen To Paris by Gavin Hamilton, which invites viewers to step into the different layers of the painting where they will move past floating angels, through a palatial hallway, onto a stunning terrace lined with beautiful banana trees.
