Promise & Momentum in Location-Based VR

(Forbes) The immediate promise and momentum for virtual reality is in the location-based VR (LBVR) attractions industry. VRcades, which are inexpensive to open (like Internet Cafes), are popping up all over the country in empty malls and retail locations. As a result, VRcade royalties for developers are on the rise, so they are shifting their attention accordingly to shorter experiences optimized for LBVR.
Rising Media’s Future of Immersive Leisure (FOIL) Conference organizer and digital Out-of-Home entertainment consultant, Kevin Williams, commented on current LBVR developments, “I am struck by how LBVR seems to be repeating many of the mistakes of the previous phase of adoption in the 90s that fizzled. But in saying that I am also heartened by the advancements being achieved. I expect we’ll see that VR is becoming part of a much wider multi-media entertainment landscape.”
