AR, VR and AI Will Make the Smartphone Obsolete

(Forbes)  Today’s smartphone is slated for obsolescence. Today, the smartphone is the most widely used mobile technology in the United States — as of 2018, 77% of U.S. adults own a smartphone, according to Pew Research Center. It’s created swift and interconnected communications, offering people the ability to connect with friends and family in seconds.
Yet three tech innovations are already shifting mobile usage: augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR) and artificial intelligence (AI) voice assistants. Given the even more rapid advancements in AR, VR and voice technology, the smartphone’s end is likely. The question is not how will the smartphone go extinct, but when?
